Sometimes we take the most obvious things for granted without taking a second look. This definitely holds true when it comes to the fundamentals of marketing your business. When starting a new business, you probably are thinking about the best marketing techniques you can do at the lowest cost. Before you think about that, though, you might want to stop and ask yourself what the definition of marketing is.
Marketing is about establishing a more mutually beneficial relationship with your customers and potential customers than the one they develop with your competitors. Marketing is about creating relationships. That's what you have to think about before beginning your marketing strategy. You will want to think about your niche, who belongs to that niche and how best to communicate with them. Use the KLT marketing factor of "Know, Like and Trust" to get more customers to buy from you.
There are different forms of marketing, but when creating a strategy you have to think about managing each one appropriately. One very effective marketing method is the use of Facebook. Facebook is a prominent modern method of establishing relationships. If you want to make a lot of friends; if you want to create relationships with a lot of people; if you want to reach and have an impact on a huge audience, Facebook is a one-stop-shop for doing so.
Let's talk about statistics: There are more than 500 million active users on Facebook and 50% of active Facebook users log on to Facebook in any given day, people spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook. There are over 900 million objects with which people interact (pages, groups, events and community pages); the average user is connected to 80 community pages, groups and events; more than one million websites have integrated with the Facebook platform. There are more than 150 million people that engage with Facebook on external websites every month; and, two thirds of comScore's US Top 100 websites and half of comScore's global top 100 websites have integrated with Facebook.
Those are impressive statistics and are indicative of the fact that Facebook, if used properly, can enable any business to reach out and touch a lot of people. Depending on your niche, you and your business could potentially influence a large percentage of those 500 million users, 250 million of them who log on to Facebook on any given day. That makes social networking a very valuable tool in creating relationships and marketing your business. There are a few things to think about before jumping in, because you're not the first business to use Facebook as a marketing tool. In fact, you'll have some tough competition.
To establish good relationships, you have to establish trust, which is the foundation of all good relationships. You want to know your community and learn to effectively communicate with them. You don't want to do heavy sales. Facebook is not the appropriate venue for aggressive sales. You have to remember that you are establishing relationships. To talk to your niche you have to show and have respect for that community. You will want to adjust your message to your audience. Remember, not all audiences are created alike.
Facebook can be a very valuable part of your marketing strategy, but your strategy has to be implemented with a personalized touch. You can't be a company on Facebook, you want to be a friend. Once your relationship is established you can ease recommendations into your posts and communications.
There are many marketing strategies and to be a successful business, you'll have to implement a multitude of them to be successful. Facebook is an incredibly useful tool, but your energy used there will be wasted if you don't nurture and develop relationships. The type of relationships you're trying to create through social networking are different, so copying and pasting other marketing techniques is not an effective strategy.
